Frontier Renewables Completes 1.1 MW Solar PV Rooftop Plant in Braunschweig, Germany.
BRAUNSCHWEIG, Germany – Frontier Renewables, a German-American independent power provider, completed a 1.1 MWp solar PV plant in Braunschweig, Germany. The plant, known as Frontier-BS-One, is one of the largest rooftop arrays in northern Germany and will generate enough electricity to power 300 homes.
The plant spans more than 30,000 square meters or 5 football fields, consisting of 4998 solar modules. It will produce 1,045,000 kwhs in electricity per year and the power will be fed directly into the local grid operated by BS Energy. Avoided emissions from Frontier-BS-One will be an estimated 1.4 million lbs/year of CO2, the primary source of global warming and climate change.
“Frontier is very excited about the opportunity to provide clean solar energy to the city of Braunschweig,’’ said Balduin Hesse, chief executive officer of Frontier. “This plant is living proof that cities, utilities, industrial companies and solar power providers can successfully work together to cut carbon emissions. We hope to form more such partnerships across Germany and the U.S.”
Frontier, based in Wolfsburg, Germany and Los Angeles, CA, will be the owner and operator of the plant. Goldbeck Solar, a unit of construction company Goldbeck, did the engineering, procurement and construction and finished the project ahead of schedule. REC Group, a Norwegian panel manufacturer, supplied the modules.
Frontier-BS-One is located on the industrial premises owned by Streiff Holding GmbH & Co. KG, a Braunschweig-based company with diverse real estate holdings including distribution warehouses. It is the first of two plants, totaling more than 2 MWs, that will be built in the industrial complex.
Frontier-BS-One will use the roof of the building now housed by Also Deutschland GmbH, a leading distributor and logistics provider for the IT and consumer electronics industries.
Frontier is a global provider of renewable energy to utilities, corporations and municipalities. Addressing the surge in demand for clean energy, the firm develops, builds, owns and operates utility scale solar PV plants, partnering with industrial companies and landowners. Frontier has offices in Europe and the U.S. and operates worldwide.
